Review of July Minutes

The minutes were reviewed from the October meeting. Charlie motioned for approval with a second from Mittie.  All voted in favor.

Discussion Regarding Absences

Joan mentioned that Ordinance #8559 was passed by the City Council in 2007 and it establishes an attendance policy for all board and commission and committee members.  The policy specifically states that “Except as otherwise provided by the Revised Statutes of Missouri and for those boards, commissions, or committees that meet monthly, any member who accumulates four (4) or more unexcused absences from regularly scheduled meetings during any twelve-month period shall automatically forfeit that member’s appointment without further action by Council.” Joan mentioned that Julie Campbell has four unexcused absences. Greg Bratcher has 3 unexcused absences.  Mittie Bond has four absences…not sure how many of these are unexcused.

Update on PR and Holiday Efforts

An overview of activities currently in process with the Public Relations Committee was presented by the Public Relations subcommittee members. It was noted that we have gotten a lot of compliments on the wreaths in the various business districts.

Mara discussed Show Me St. Louis which was on Monday and was a broadcast of the wooden reindeer (and went through the process of how they came to be) that were created by the Parks Division that will be grouped in all three business districts, at City Hall and the Recreation Complex.

Mittie mentioned that the Post Dispatch had an ad in it a few weeks ago that included businesses throughout the St. Louis area, including our neighbors of Clayton and Kirkwood, but excluded Webster Groves.  She stated that this would be a good type of advertisement for the City to participate in and wondered if anyone knew about it. She indicated an interest in determining who spearheaded it and perhaps the City participating in it in some level next year.

Mara discussed an advertising program by Big 550 KTRS with the Old Webster District.  She indicated that it would potentially include Old Orchard and Crossroads.  A lengthy discussion ensued regarding whether to use 550 KTRS or another station.  It was determined to push the conversation closer to March to discuss other components of advertising.

It was also suggested that since Valentine’s Day is often missed, that we should promote Webster as a destination during this time.  Old Webster already does something for this time of year, but it is unknown whether Old Orchard or Crossroads does.

Review of Explore WG Website

Mara discussed how the site could be improved and how we should minimize the number of sites we have.  Discussion followed on what would be reasonable additions to the site to make it more attractive and user-friendly.  Mara also indicated that she would determine how to include information on the website about the City of Webster Groves being awarded the Creative Communities Award.

Planning Next All Business Meeting

The next all business meeting was scheduled for February 5, 2013 from 8-9am at the Recreation Complex.  Topics that we plan to discuss include the following:

·         Explore Webster Groves website

·         Cross marketing

·         Gift certificates

·         CVC

Other

Pat discussed Small Business Saturday and that it is a lifestyle choice.  She indicated the importance of setting up a campaign as a way for the business community to thank its residents for shopping locally…as a partnership. She also discussed how American Express took the initiative to support Small Business Saturday with the ad they had placed.

Mara mentioned that USA Today is doing a survey on various school rivalries.  The Webster/Kirkwood rivalry is one of the top ones for Missouri.  There are only a few days left to vote….go to the following link for more information:
