Pat Richards, Chair, called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. The minutes were reviewed from the prior meeting.  Julie Campbell motioned for approval, with a second from Charlie Downs.  All voted in favor.

Farmers Market Update

Roger Grow indicated that there are approximately 21 vendors at the market.  He also stated that the fundraiser at Cyranos on April 25th was a success and thanked Charlie Downs for his efforts.  Roger further indicated that new signs will be going up to advertise the Farmers Market.

Public Relations Update

Mayor Welch updated the group on the efforts the committee is making to create a rack card to be used to advertise the City of Webster Groves as an overall piece at the CVC visitor center.  Discussion ensured regarding efforts to rally the City to get more people to participate in CVC and the continuing work that Insight Marketing is doing with the city to coordinate these efforts.

Vacant Building Update

Roger distributed copies of the updated version of the Vacant Building Code recommendations.  He discussed the changes that had been made from the prior draft which include the following: reducing the registration fee; if you stay on the list, your annual registration fee increases by $100; the provision was removed that stated that the Arts Commission was responsible for decision making regarding the window treatments.  Roger also stated that the committee suggested that window treatments be given free to those businesses that are registered as vacant businesses; if you aren’t on the list but want to participate, you can get the window treatments at a cost. Costs and sizes are still to be determined.  A motion was made by Chalegne O’Brien to accept the program and forward it to Council.  This motion was seconded by Mittie Bond with all voting in favor of the recommendation.

Explore Webster Groves Update

Roger distributed a calendar to the commission.  He added two event categories: Art Exhibits and Music.  Roger asked the commission whether fundraisers should be included on the website.  The group decided to err on the side of not including them unless it has some sort of entertainment value.  Roger further stated that they list Associations with a presence in the City, but the association must contact the city to be listed.

Joint Business Efforts

Discussion ensued regarding holding a Meet and Greet to promote the City of Webster Groves, to communicate the benefits of the CVC, and just to familiarize business owners with what Webster Groves offers by bringing together some of the existing programs that the City currently participates in and sharing them with these business owners.  The date, time and location of this event will be determined in the near future.
